I wonder if the first thing people ask when touring Bangkok Thailand is..."what's that smell"? This will be a short entry as I am exhausted, hot and sticky. It's 29 degrees celcuis with 85% humidity and it's 0200. After meeting up with Christopher, my travel buddy for most of this trip we decided to hit the streets of Bangkok for a quick beer and bite to eat. A block from

our hotel we encountered rats running amuck. I am not scared of tigers or lions, but rodents...ewww. My shrieks alerted a tourist police officer who came over...he was amused by mydipleasure and seemd to want to use his flashlight to herd the rats towards me. In hindsight I bet he was after a tip...yes it seems now we have to pay people not to herd plague carrying rodents our way.
Ahhh Bangkok...our next block encountered an invitation to a ping pong show (google it), a pad thai street food vendor, the opportunity to purchase counterfit watches and sex DVD's and an invitation for a thai massage, Yes more rats as well. We did partake in one very odd Asian specilaty - the theraputic fish foot bath.
This is sooo freaky. You dunk your legs in a giant aquarium and thousands of little fish swim over and eat the dead skin off. It took me a good 10 min before I could bring myself to do it, much to the amusment of the staff. After my initial dunk in I inadvertantly shrieked, pulled them out and

accidentally flung little fish all over the flooor. Oops. I did eventually man up enough to keep my legs in there. It's essentially a giant amount of hyperstimulation that you recieve - it's a neverending tickle - except not funny.
Off to bed, big day ahead of us tomorrow.
Cop-coom-ka for reading
Are you having fun yet? The rats would be enough to send me to another city (but then again, they're probably all the same). Looks like the traffic is a bit much as well.
ReplyDeleteHoly Crap Amy Leah... I am generally envious of your travels and tremendous adventures, but I will definitely pass on the rats and the fish...
ReplyDeleteLOL All I can visualize are all these poor little fish that just want to clean your toe fuzz flopping about outside your little aquarium! Did you try to catch them all to put them back in? LOL!
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Peace be upon You!
ReplyDeleteturns out the profet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) was a big fan of cats. so no rats in Morrocco, but stray cats EVERYWHERE!
Just got home yesterday. Morrocco is great (with some not so great).
I sound like a western whimp, but it is nice to have that first shower and sleep at home.
Gald you are having a great adventure. BH
Love the pictures, keep up the blog! Love Bangkok, if you see someone selling pulled coffee served in a plastic bag with ice .... don't pass it by, it is delicious!!
ReplyDeleteok..... not sure if I could have done the fish pedi..... have fun on your travels...and say hi to christopher for me
ReplyDeleteDONOT ever ever take pictures of rats never ever again. Do not post them do not associate with them give them no credence what so ever. They were created after the fall of man and will lead you to your eternal doom. Take my word for this. No matter where you go don't even make eye contact. IN fact I am sure that I will be punished for even mentioning them. Fish however are ok. Just think you and the sharks now have lots in common you both have cleaning stations. perhaps next year you can join the crocs on the nile and let the birds pick food out of your teeth. And where or where is the little piggy in all this confusion. She would have saved you from the rodents. By the by how dare you take off without so much of heads up, but I am very happy on the inside now I get to travel too. so keep writing.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe u let fish snack on your skin
