No need for sunscreen here...(posting from the road)

I could sure use some some of that midnight sun right now. I write to you today from under my cozy down duvet in Reykjavik Iceland at 3:30 in the AM. Outside I can hear sleety rain pelting down just coating the road to make my day trip tomorrow more of an adventure.
In preparation for an early AM arrival here, I arrived at Seatac Airport, good and tired, prepared to nap my 7 hour commute away. Unfortunately a seat kicking toddler foiled these plans and by the time I landed at Keflavik International Airport, which is sadly lacking in Starbucks, sleep was only thought.
Thirty minutes later I was barrelling down the frost covered Icelandic Highway in a toy car with a guy named Shawn or John that I met at an ATM. He was desperately trying to help navigate but every road name is at least 25 letters long and 75% of those are vowels. Eventually we stumbled upon Central Reykjavik and our respective hotels, still under a dark veil of night despite the clock reading 9:15 am.

Not wanting to waste any of the precious daylight, I downed some hotel coffee and set out to expolre the World's Northernest Capital City. The whole place is very quaint, the streets are narrow and cobblestone, kind of felt like I was driving on a sidewalk (hmmm in hindsight I wonder if I was, my fatigue level was quite high). I visited a thermal beach where warm volcanic water was spilling into the ocean...an odd site as the beach was covered in snowy frost but the water was warm. Saw the requiste churches and quaint Scandanvian style homes...sadly all in a sleep deprived haze (mentally I kept wondering what I was doing in Finland?)

My day was fairly uneventful - except for a brief encounter with a giant goose who seemed to believe that I was holding a secret stash of bread somewhere on my body and tried to frisk me for it. I tell you that if I did have any bread I would have been eating it - I am starving and fish, shark and whale being my primary protein options...well it's going to be a long week.

Today I will be setting off to expore some of the countryside with Shawn/John (fingers crossed that he is not a crazy killer) in search of waterfalls and geysers. Will write to you all if I survive!
